
SANITATION
Training and awareness is given to tribal and adivasi community on promotion of toilets and it's usage. Awareness is also given on ISL ( Individual Sanitary Latrines ) promoted by government. Usage of plastic and water bottles is banned in the area by the government, hence MYWA also encourage community by providing training to stop their usage.
In the village remote area community finds lot of difficult for defecation and also lot of problem to go out they have to go early morning or late evening with since people will be roaming around this leads to problem on health of women, children and also attack from wild animals. If they have to go they need to carry water or they should come back house for washing they also go without wearing footwear which will also affect their health and they have spend lot of money on health to doctors and also time to get cure and waste day labor and children dropout of school this led to missing classes at school and also women dropping out of labor which will also affect their livelihood. MYWA conducted awareness classes were held to the community on important of individual sanitary latrine, its usages, flushing out cleaning and maintaining to the community and children once 3 months in a year. Based on the training provided the community started to feel need of toilets and felt that they should construct their own toilets. The women, children and community approached MYWA to address the issues and also requested them to take to talk with village leader and Village Panchayat on providing toilets to individual house with water connection. Based on this individual application for toilets was received from 5 village people and was forwarded to the Panchayat for getting approval under Swatch Bharath Scheme which is under implementation in most of the rural area in their monthly meeting. The resolution was passed in the meeting and approved for construction of individual sanitary latrine with water connection to all the 5 villages namely Anaikatty, Siriyur, Chokkanalli, Vazhaithottam and Chemmanatham. The families were very happy for construction of toilets and getting water connection to their houses. Again training was provided on usage and maintenance of toilet to women, children and community once in 6 months in the 5 villages. The community members specially women and children thanked Village Panchayath and MYWA for providing toilet and water connection to individual houses and solving the problem of open defection and attack of wild animals in the village. The cost of each toilet is Rs.17000/- which is given by government and water connection is around Rs.5000/- which is spent by individual family.
