INCOME GENERATION PROGRAM

The women in the Mudhumalai Tiger Reserve area were not allowed to participate in any development work weather inside or outside the house due to shyness , male domination, no interest ,health and did not find time. This is because of no awareness, no education, no awareness about proper women and child health and not participating in Village Development work. This was the status of women, than in the mean time lot of visits were done by MYWA staff in the area and lot of visits were carried out to organize community to educate and participate in development work. The women’s were organized in groups and lot of trainings were given in what is participate, why they need to participate in developing their village and family. They were also made to sit in a circle so that they can see each other and talk to bring out shyness and courage to speak in groups. This helped them to gain confidence and open up and speak. They also sat together in their own groups and started talking about their day to day problem, their work and come out with solution which can be met by them self or take it to other people who will try to help them. In the mean time MYWA came forward to help them to support and guide them. This was the first step towards uplifting and empowering the women. Then the women started to organize then self and started approaching MYWA for suggestion, support and guidance.

My name is Sarasa aged 55years old working as house wife my husband name is Jadyan who is no more. I have 4 daughter by name Kavitha, Suriyakumar ,latha and Revathi expect Latha other 3 are married and are residing in there in-laws house. Latha has studied B.com and Revathi studied BCA both are working. My family had nothing for living at that time MYWA during those days had provided 4 buffalos for my families livelihood through which we started our livelihood buy selling 3 lit of milk to society by which we were earning an income of Rs50/- per day through which our livelihood was going on. This continued for some days mean while the 4 buffalos give birth so 4 more added every year it continued and the family was getting good income by selling milk and also purchased few more buffalos, even the education of children were met, living condition improved, they started celebrating festival and other related function and could get recognized by others in the village. Like this the family owned about 40 buffalos and were leading a happy life. Meanwhile I lost my husband and faced lot of problem and slowly started losing our buffalos in forest due to wild animals attack, but still I did not lose hope my children could finish their graduation. Now I have 2 buffalos which are been taken care of. Now I and my daughter by name Latha are living together, she is earning income by way of teaching, thank to MYWA for supporting us.

BUFFALO REARING

SHEEP REARING

In rural area we see lot of women’s who have crossed 50 years age sitting idea ling or talking to someone in the village without any work or income source. The women’s are gathered in group of 15 to 20 and self help group is promoted to save some money and proper training is also provided on SHG concept. After 6 months or 1 year based on the saving the group is supported for rearing of 4+1 sheep’s to 8 women’s who have to take care of the animals health and look after them carefully. The sheep’s will starts giving birth after 6 months and will multiple. This will improve the economic condition and the livelihood of families and other will also be assisted by group in the latter stage. Know Masinamma life is also improved by sheep rearing, economic condition is also improved and she is leading a peaceful and happy life. It will also help in the children education, health, repair of house and festivals.

TAILORING

MYWA gives an opportunity to the girl children who have failed in 10th and +2 and women’s who are idea ling at home. The training is given in basic tailoring training in such as button switching, button hook switching and can wash. Then the students are made to sit in on the sewing machine and basic knowledge of switching is given to the students using lining cloths so that they practices switching such as small frocks, children’s cloths, kerchief, petticoat and male children cloths to gain knowledge on basic tailoring which will take about 6 months. Then they will have to buy or take credit from the bank to purchases their own tailoring machine or they will have to find their own job either in garment or elsewhere. It will also improve the economic condition of the family and community. So for about 98 students have trained and about 65 of them have got employment in various garment factories and self employed leading sustainable life.

TRACTOR SUPPORT

In the Anaikatty village SHG by name ADHI KATTAPPU SOLAI were doing agriculture using man power, small agriculture equipments and also by hiring. They could only cultivate small piece of agriculture land which led them to earn only a small amount which was not sufficient to lead a family. In the SHG it was decided to find a alternative system to do agriculture by covering more number of land and earn income to run the family. They sat together and started to thinking for some other alternative way and came up with an idea for hiring a tractor or own a tractor by the SHG. The group decided to purchase a tractor from TATCO under Government scheme availing 50% subsided for tractor and agriculture equipments. An application was forwarded by group and it was approved by the Government under 50% subsided scheme and tractor and agriculture equipments were purchases and brought to the village in the name of SHG ADHI KATTAPU SOLAI and started to cultivate more lands and grow different types of vegetables such as Beans, Potatoes, Bingil, Chilies, Tomato and Onion in large scale. This increased the production and group started getting lot of income. They started repaying the loan amount to bank with interest and it is continuing. The SHG members are also happy to repay and the families are also leading a happy life meeting their family requirement. They thank to government and MYWA for supporting.

AGRICULTURE

Income generation program in Anaikatty village on beans and flower cultivation (marigold). The program was taken up for generation income through cultivation of beans and marigold for women’s who defend on income only through agriculture MYWA providing support for cultivation the land in which beans and marigold is cultivated. All women joined to together and cleaned the land by cutting shrubs. Then through MYWA assistance for solar fencing was done involving women’s . The land was prepared showing of seeds, then once again proper trilling was done and the seeds were sown. After germination cultivation for unwanted weeds were done, watering was done for seeds so that the plants will grow with proper care by women’s. Spraying was done using pesticides so that there will be no pest attack on plants. The women look after plants up to 3 months with proper care the plants started flowering and barring fruits. The harvesting of picking flowers and fruit started and women’s storing in once place separately in field. Then the product was graded according to different size and then it was taken to market. In the market according to grade the price was fixed and sold to the buyers who agreed for the price and cash was collected by women’s and came to house. The group sat together and discussed about cost of cultivation and profits which they earned during the whole process. The repayment was done to MYWA. The group felt happy because they got sufficient income for family. The group thanked MYWA for the support otherwise could not be achieved.
